The Safari begins - Day 1

We left where I am staying a little after 10 this morning (only 30 mins late which is GREAT for Africa) and headed towards the Rift Valley and Nakuru with stops on the way. Went in another boat out on the lake with so many hippos there - was awesome - but the wind came up and the lake got a bit rough and as we didn't want to get everyone wet with the rain, we came back to shore as fast as we could - through the weed as you will see from the photos. Animals we saw today, giraffe, baboons, wart hog, zebra, kudu, gazelle, impala as well as a huge variety of birds including the fish eagle and some yellow billed storks. See pics below. Am staying at an orphanage tonight (same one I came to before) - and the kids were pretty happy to see us.

Our leader Joy - who didn't want to get wet on the boat!

Our Intrepid Safari Group

The Rift Valley looking down as we drive down the Mountain

These were the Pelicans - yellow beaks - different colours to the ones at home but just as majestic

The kids love to see photos of themselves

This is TimTam - they just wanted a cuddle and I was only too happy to obligue.

The kids love the babies and have to say goodnight - waking them if necessary!

Is this a nice way to tell you something - a "polite notice"
Forget the name of this one - but he was beautiful and joined us for lunch

This is the landrover of George Adamson in which he and his 2 companions were shot (Born Free fame if you didn't recognise the name) We had lunch at their home
Aren't they just so cute!

Couldn't believe the number of hippos in the lake - just near us. You could hear them and see them blowing water everywhere.

Beautiful impala

Flamingos - could watch them for hours they are so beautiful
The weed was so thick it slowed down the engine of the boat
This deserved a royal wave!

Boating - they made us wear a life jacket this time - was that telling us something??? When we saw the number of hippos in the water maybe they were a good idea!
